Description

General Description: The teacher shall prayerfully guide students in the understanding of a Biblical world and life view, through the skillful dissemination of subject content, that will reinforce the development of mature, able, and responsible Christian men and women to the praise and glory of God.

Responsible To: Principal

Supervises: Assigned teacher aides, volunteers, and students

Duties and Responsibilities:

Spiritual:

  • Model a daily walk with Jesus Christ in attitude, speech and actions.
  • Show by example the importance of Biblical knowledge and study, prayer, witnessing, and unity in Christian fellowship.
  • Follow the Matthew 18 principle in dealing with students, parents, administration, and staff.
  • Encourage students to accept God’s gift of salvation and grow in their faith.
  • Lead students to a realization of their self-worth in Christ.
  • Show support for the role of parents as primarily responsible before God for their children’s education and assist them in the task.
  • Demonstrate brotherly love within the Body of Christ for students, parents, and staff.

Instructional:

  • Recognize the importance of consistency and just systems for student accountability and classroom management.
  • Demonstrate mastery of the subject material by utilizing effective teaching and planning practices to maximize student learning within the framework of the school’s philosophy.
  • Demonstrate a passion for your subject area(s) evidenced by continuing
  • educational, research and technological opportunities, expanding ones’ depth and breath of the subject.
  • Teach classes as assigned following a prescribed sequence of instruction in the lesson delivery.
  • Use homework effectively for drill, review, reinforcement, enrichment or project work.
  • Engage students in lessons by maintaining a proper balance between teacher-centered and student-centered instruction.
  • Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students, while maintaining appropriate difficulty levels.
  • Nurture, train, and hold students accountable to procedures and routines that promote effective classroom management and an optimum-learning environment.
  • Guide students in the promotion of positive interaction with the lesson.
  • Use good questioning techniques, promoting critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Employ a variety of instructional aids, methods, and materials that will provide for creative teaching to reach the whole child: spiritual, mental, physical, social, and emotional.
  • Assess the learning of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  • Plan effectively and purposefully for Biblical integration in every subject.

Non-Instructional:

  • Cooperate and support the Board and Administration in implementing all policies, procedures, and directives governing the operation of the school.
  • Plan broadly through the use of semester and quarterly goals and objectives, and more currently through the use of weekly lesson plans.
  • Keep proper discipline in the classroom and on the school premises promoting a good, safe school environment.
  • Inform the Administration if unable to fulfill any duty assigned. Prepare adequate information and materials for a substitute teacher.
  • Maintain regular and accurate attendance and grade records to meet the demands for a comprehensive knowledge of each student’s progress, being faithful to record grades for families within three days.
  • Keep students, parents, and the Administration adequately informed of progress and deficiencies and give sufficient notice of failure.
  • Maintain a clean, attractive, organized, and efficient classroom.
  • Supervise extra-curricular activities, scheduled duties, organizations, and outings as assigned by the administration.
  • Support the broader program of the school by attending extra-curricular activities when possible.

Professional:

  • Utilize educational opportunities for professional growth.
  • Seek and/or accept the counsel of the administrator and colleagues, while maintaining a teachable attitude.
  • Provide input and recommendations for administrative and managerial functions in the school.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled orientations, devotions, conferences, special school functions, seminars, retreats, in-service, and scheduled meetings i.e. committee, faculty, and P.T.F.
  • Study and know the procedures for crisis management issues including, but not limited to, fire, tornado and lockdown drills.
  • Contribute to the general improvement of the school program.
  • Refuse to use or circulate confidential information inappropriately--giving a good report about other faculty and staff and keeping student information in the circle of those who absolutely need to know.
  • Perform any other duties, which may be assigned by the administration.

Personal:

  • Demonstrate the character qualities of enthusiasm, courtesy, flexibility, integrity, gratitude, kindness, self-control, perseverance, and punctuality.
  • Meet everyday stress with emotional stability, objectivity, and optimism.
  • Develop and maintain rapport with students, parents, and staff by treating others with friendliness, dignity, and consideration.
  • Show respectful and faithful submission to constituted authority.
  • Maintain a personal appearance that is a role model of cleanliness, modesty, good taste, and in agreement with school policy.
  • Use acceptable English in written and oral communication. Speak with clear articulation.
  • Recognize the need for good public relations. Represent the school in favorable and professional manner to the constituency and general public.
  • Place the teaching ministry ahead of outside or volunteer work.
  • Attend regularly and faithfully support a local church whose fundamental beliefs are in agreement with the WCA Statement of Faith.

Requirements

Qualifications: The teacher shall be one who has received Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. The teacher shall faithfully attend and financially support a local church whose fundamental beliefs are in agreement with the Statement of Faith of Westminster Christian Academy. He/She shall be a person who exhibits and/or desires spiritual understanding in academic and leadership abilities that will allow him/her to “train up a child in the way he should go.” The teacher shall reflect the purpose of the school, which is to honor Christ in every activity.

• The teacher shall possess an undergraduate degree (BS, BA) from an accredited college or university,

• The teacher shall possess educational methods courses (commiserate with the teaching position) or be willing to enroll in said classes immediately upon hire and complete in a timely fashion.

• The teacher shall meet certification requirements for state approval
